It is while we are young that the habit of industry is formed. If not then, it never is afterwards. The fortune of our lives therefore depends on employing well the short period of youth. - Thomas Jefferson
MISSION
To prepare young people ages 16-24 for employment, self-employment, and financial independence in the nine rural North Quabbin towns that straddle the border between north-central and western Massachusetts. The program will be piloted in 2009 with learners living or working in the Town of Orange.
VISION
QuabbinWorks™ will be a community-accredited educational collaborative that brings together local instructors and non-traditional learners — early school-leavers without a GED or high school diploma; those currently preparing for their GED; and those holding a GED or high school diploma but who need supplemental skills and support. Graduates of QuabbinWorks™ will earn an educational and job readiness credential recognized by the region’s gatekeepers to economic independence: employers, community colleges, financial institutions, landlords, vendors, and other entities.
