It’s never to soon to start thinking about how you’ll make a living or make your mark on the world. BizVenture is here to help you get ahead of the crowd. The sooner you begin, the more likely you’ll reach your lifetime goals and achieve your dreams. Your future is too important to leave to chance or hemmed in by the expectations of others. Mostly it boils down to setting goals, making a plan, and rolling the dice. The best goals are the ones you set for yourself. The best plan is the one that will work for you. And the best luck of all is the luck you create for yourself by deciding to get started. The future’s waiting. There’s no telling how far you’ll go or how much you’ll achieve. Opportunity’s knocking. Gonna open that door?

First, you'll need to review a few things about yourself, what you know, and what makes you tick. BizQuiz is the first step on your quest. Thus painless on-line quiz features 40 multiple choice questions and takes 15-20 minutes tops.

Then, it’s onto making a plan, beginning with an idea for a business or organization that will help you see if creating your own job and being your own boss is for you. We want to help you explore this option. As an incentive, we are offering many cash and other prizes for the best ideas. But you have to enter BizIdea to win one! This you can do online, for free, right after you complete the BizQuiz. You can also get help, advice and ideas from workshops, events and presentations during Bright Idea’s 2010 BizTour at a location near you.

Your BizIdea deserves some time in the spotlight and so do you. That’s why we’re throwing a huge dinner party called BizAwards. There you’ll set up a table display about your BizIdea and make a 1-minute ‘pitch’ to the audience. Both count towards your total BizIdea score. And once the judging is complete, you’ll be on hand to see if your BizIdea wins a prize!

SummerBiz, BizBasics, BizPlan, BizLaunch
...are follow-up opportunities to help you translate your knowledge, ideas, and skills into actual money-making activities. We’re still working on them, but if you take part in Bright Idea or subscribe to our e-newsletter, we’ll keep you posted.

WHOSE 'BizVenture' IS THIS?
Bright Idea, presented by Young Entrepreneurs Society, is a regional effort being organized by the North Quabbin Chamber of Commerce, the Towns of Orange and Athol, Orange Innovation Center, North Quabbin Young Leaders Council, area schools, businesses and others who share a vision for the region’s future. It builds on YES' 12 years' experience helping over 2,000 teens and young adults learn the art and science of planning, starting and operating their own small businesses. BizVenture is a 'pilot', or experimental, program designed for cost-effective replication that joins our regional lessons learned with the best practices and policies being used by youth entrepreneurship education practitioners nationally and internationally, with a community support structure (the 'village' in "it takes a village..."), and a technology that lowers both program cost and logistical and geographic barriers and with which teens and young adults are increasingly familiar and versed in: the Internet.

Every teen and young adult ages 13-22 living in the 9 towns of the rural North Quabbin region of North-Central Massachusetts will have opportunities, resources and support to find and follow their own paths to prosperity.

To provide educational entrepreneurship and business programs and activities to teens and young adults.

To help the next generation grow and sustain our economy as productive and community-minded entrepreneurs, inventors and business owners; social entrepreneurs, activists and volunteers; productive and entrepreneurial employees; and fiscally-savvy citizens.

To promote an entrepreneurial culture by fostering, educating, cultivating, and supporting teens and young adults to appreciate, embrace and champion entrepreneurship as a way of shaping a life, making a living, and contributing to the well-being of their communities.
